I am a fallen lamb,
Broken by this cruel world,
Fallen astray from the cool green path.
My soul, only darkness,
My heart, naught but despair,
Such pain, I'm wounded and forsaken.
I cry, none can save me,
For I am too far gone.
With what I have done who would love me?
Tripping through the darkness,
The cool stream calls to me,
But foul is its taste, I wander more.
Nothing is as it seemed to be,
Nothing offers peace to me.
I long for warmth, security, love,
But nothing can be found
In this dark fallen land.
Nothing lasts, my tears fall bitterly.
But wait! In the silence
I hear His worried call.
The Shepherd calling for his lost flocks.
Had I forgotten?
Given up all sweet hope?
He came, searching the dark land for me.
His warm eyes comfort me,
And joyful is my step.
But then I look upon myself and cringe.
Tainted is my once-fair wool.
I can't be seen by Him!
For then He shall see what I have done.
I lose hope once again,
For I am unworthy.
But He takes me in His arms and laughs.
His face is shining bright.
I'm whiter than the winter's snow.
My voice cries, "holy, holy, holy!"
Cruel pain has no name, now.
I follow behind Him,
I leave the dark land with my Savior.
Warmth, love, security,
All these I have with Thee.
I need naught, following close behind.
His light wards off darkness.
Overwhelmed, I am loved.
My tears, they fall sweet, and I follow.
